What is Gold?

Gold is soft, yellow, non corrodible element and can be changed even into wire. Gold is a good conductor to heat and electricity, usually it is alloyed with other metals to increase its strength. The atomic symbol of gold, Au, comes from the Latin word for gold, aurum. Gold is also considered an international monetary standard. Gold is used mostly for jewelry, electronics goods and decoration pieces. Carat is the word, which is used for the purity of gold while 24 carat gold is considered purest form of gold. Scientifically the atomic number of this element is 79 and the element symbol is Au. The word gold comes from the Anglo-Saxon word ‘geolo’ meaning yellow. Gold is available throughout the world while the producer of this element is South Africa, the United States and Australia while two third of the world’s gold is mined in South Africa. However, Seventy-eight percent of the world’s gold used in jewelry and other is used in different types of electronics goods, dental and medical uses. Gold is used for different purposes just as currency, coinage, jewelry, medicine, health care, dental alloys and in electronics. Human have been using this element since at least 4000 B.C.

Gold Types.

Although gold jewelry is not pure gold containing ornaments, but it is an alloy a mixture different types of metals. Gold can be alloyed with silver, copper, zinc, palladium, and nickel to developing different shades. However, the gold has these common colors like yellow, white, rose, and green. The yellow gold is an alloy of pure gold with silver, copper, and zinc. While the white gold is a combination of gold and platinum and this type of gold is more scratch-resistant than ordinary yellow gold. This type of gold is comparatively economical than the other gold. Rose gold is also famous with the name of pink gold and it is an alloy of gold, copper, and silver. Copper, which is used in this gold is a cheap metals that is why it is an affordable gold. The durability of this gold is more than the other gold types. Green gold is made up by the mixing of gold with silver and sometimes copper. Yellow gold is most demanded and popular among the people, but it is expensive that is why people select other types of gold like white gold. Yellow Gold.
Yellow gold is most demanded due to its color and most of jewelry is made up this gold. It is its natural yellow color and combined with silver, zinc and copper. This natural color of gold is yellow when it is mined from the mines after purification its luster is more golden.

Rose Gold.
This is a new introduction in jewelry and it is more economical than the yellow gold. Its rose or pink shade is due to copper and when there is more copper it appears more pink and this type of gold is  long lasting than the other gold.

White Gold.
When yellow gold is mixed with rhodium, palladium, zinc and nickel. This gold contains silvery white color and this type of gold resist scratches due to containing rhodium in it.
